The Artist / Design -

Based on artwork by Alma Granites.

A Nungarrayi Granites (also known as Alma Nungarai Granites) was born 30th May 1955 and passed away 1st September 2017. She was a Warlpiri woman and lived at Yuendumu, an Aboriginal community roughly 300km North-West of Alice Springs on the fringes of the Tanami Desert. She was the daughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (Dec) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (Dec) both founding artists of Warlukurlangu Artists.

She painted a large array of stories all of which were passed down to her from her father and generations before him. All her paintings tell creation stories that relate to the artists traditional country.

She painted with Warlukurlangu Artists for 30 years and was a strong participant of Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation and exhibited in group exhibitions nationally and internationally, culminating in two solo shows, one in Singapore in 2010 and one in Germany in 2011. In 2010 she completed an Artist in Residency at the Australian Pavillion World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.

Warlukurlangu Artists is one of the longest running and most successful Aboriginal-owned art centres in Central Australia. Royalties from the sale of these products directly benefit the artist and their community.
